Cyril B. Frank, M.D.

 

Dr. Cy Frank is currently Professor and Chief of the Division of Orthopaedics, University of Calgary/Calgary Health Region; an Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Scientist; the McCaig Professor of Joint Injury and Arthritis Research; and Executive Director of the provincial Alberta Bone & Joint Health Institute. He was the inaugural Scientific Director of the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research from 2000 to 2006.  Over the years he has Chaired or been a member of many local, national and international committees for many different associations (The Arthritis Society, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Orthopaedic Association, Deputy Editor of the Journal of Orthopaedic Research, etc.). He has published 220 peer-reviewed publications and 39 book chapters and presented 355 abstracts locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr. Frank was a member of Canadian Institutes of Health Research's  "Key Results" Working Group from 2004-2006 where they developed performance measures including Knowledge Translation metrics and a  member of CIHR's  Standing Committee on Performance Measurement, Evaluation and Analysis from 2002 to 2006. He served as an external reviewer of the RAND report on "The Returns of Arthritis Research" prepared for the UK Arthritis Research Campaign in 2004. In addition, he was an architect of the model and pilot project on  "Wait times - Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute Hip and Knee Pilot Project" presented to the House of Commons in 2006.
