Dr. Jack Jhamandas received his BSc in Applied Physics and MSc in Biophysics from the University of Alberta. Following the completion of his MD at the University of Calgary, he completed his clinical training in Internal Medicine and Neurology at the Toronto Western Hospital and the Montreal Neurological Institute. He subsequently obtained his PhD in Neuroscience from McGill University as a Medical Research Council (MRC) Centennial Fellow and in 1987 joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta as a MRC Scholar.

Dr. Jhamandas' research focuses on mechanisms underlying cell death in Alzheimer's disease and aspects of brain regulation of autonomic function.  His research program has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, Alberta Ingenuity Fund and the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.  In recognition of his scholastic endeavors, Dr. Jhamandas has received the Medal in Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a Killam Professorship, and the Department of Medicine Research Achievement Award and held Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Alzheimer's Research.

Dr. Jhamandas has served on a number of national scientific granting panels, on the Board of Directors of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, N.W.T. & Nunavut, and as a member of the Advisory Board for the CIHR Institute of Neuroscience, Mental Health and Addiction.
